Join Hiking Hound Adventures\, LLC as we break down the steps to identifying trees. With us you will learn the basics to tree identification like the parts of a tree\, how trees grow\, and important terminology. Simple vs. compound leaves\, leaf scars\, bark patterns\, growth patters\, fruit\, and more! We will learn several of the species that play important roles in Pennsylvania’s forests like maples\, oaks\, beeches\, and poplars to name a few.  Forests are complex\, living ecosystems and understanding them is a fascinating way to enjoy the outdoors. \nYour instructor\, Andy\, has a B.S. in Forestry from the University of Kentucky and has a great understanding of trees and forest dynamics. He is ready to share his love of the woods with you! \n  \n*Recommended ages 12+. Participants under the age of 18 must register and be accompanied by a registered adult.

Together we will spend a half an hour in the classroom. There you will learn map components like scale and contour lines\, as well as compass parts and techniques such as taking bearings and finding your location on a map. \nWe will then spend a full hour with hands-on field instruction. Here we will put theory into practice and help you gain confidence navigating diverse terrain using your map and compass. \nJoin us to unlock the skills needed to confidently explore the great outdoors! \nCompasses and classroom materials will be provided for use during the course. If you would like a compass to take home\, we have them available for purchase.
