DESCRIPTION:Join Hiking Hound Adventures\, LLC as we present an introduction to topographic map and compass- your gateway to mastering outdoor navigation! \nLearn the essentials of map reading and compass navigation in this 90 minute class. Together we will spend a half an hour in the classroom. There you will learn map components like scale and contour lines\, as well as compass parts and techniques such as taking bearings and finding your location on a map. \nWe will then spend a full hour with hands-on field instruction. Here we will put theory into practice and help you gain confidence navigating diverse terrain using your map and compass. \nJoin us to unlock the skills needed to confidently explore the great outdoors! \nCompasses and classroom materials will be provided for use during the course. If you would like a compass to take home\, we have them available for purchase. Over two consecutive days\, you’ll spend more than half of the course outdoors\, applying Leave No Trace principles in real-world environments. Upon completion\, you’ll be certified to lead LNT Skills Courses and Workshops in your community\, empowering others to adopt sustainable outdoor practices.\n\nThis course is ideal for outdoor instructors\, guides\, land managers\, educators\, Scout leaders\, and anyone passionate about protecting the outdoors.
