We’re seeking enthusiastic, skilled, and safety-conscious Outdoor Instructors to join our team for the upcoming season.
Job Overview:
As a Seasonal Outdoor Instructor, you’ll lead dynamic outdoor programs and courses, including hiking, backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, day camps, adult and kids’ adventure programs. You’ll create memorable, hands-on experiences, helping participants of all ages develop outdoor skills, gain confidence, and cultivate a love for the natural world. Whether you’re teaching basic wilderness skills, guiding a multi-day backpacking trip, or leading a canoeing adventure, you’ll be the expert and guide who inspires others to push their limits and embrace the outdoors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Outdoor Programs: Facilitate and instruct a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking, backpacking, kayaking, canoeing, and kids’ programs. Tailor instruction to various skill levels and age groups.
- Ensure Safety: Maintain a strong focus on participant safety by conducting proper risk assessments, monitoring weather conditions, and enforcing safety protocols throughout each program.
- Engage and Inspire: Foster a positive, inclusive, and educational environment for all participants, encouraging learning, fun, and a deeper connection with nature.
- Promote Skill Development: Teach essential outdoor skills such as navigation, map reading, camp cooking, shelter building, paddling techniques, and Leave No Trace principles.
- Program Support: Assist with set-up and breakdown of activities, help manage equipment, and ensure that all program materials are organized and ready for use.
- Collaborate with Team: Work closely with fellow instructors and support staff to ensure a cohesive and efficient team environment, sharing feedback and ideas to continuously improve our programs.
- Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback to participants to help them improve their outdoor skills and knowledge. Ensure participants have a positive, memorable experience.
Qualifications:
- Passion for the outdoors and a desire to share that passion with others.
- Prior experience in teaching or instructing outdoor activities such as hiking, backpacking, kayaking, or canoeing (experience working with kids is a plus).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical skills in an engaging and clear manner.
- First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before starting).
- Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Enthusiastic, responsible, and adaptable with a positive attitude.
- Physical fitness to lead active outdoor programs in a variety of environments and weather conditions.
- Reliable transportation.
- Clean FBI Child Abuse screening and and criminal background check.

Schedule & Compensation:
This is a seasonal position with flexible scheduling based on program needs. Compensation will be competitive and based on experience.
