On the Trail with Hiking Hound Adventures

HIKING | HIKING TRIPS | HIKING TRAILS

Hiking Hound Adventures brings families, kids, and nature lovers together on your local trails. Our events help children explore the outdoors, parents connect with nature, and communities grow stronger—one hike at a time.

From scavenger hunts in the woods to making ice cream in the park, every adventure is designed to be fun, educational, and full of discovery. If you’ve joined us recently—whether in Springfield Township, Radnor Township, Upper Providence, Westtown, Middletown, or at a local library or park—thank you for being part of our trail community.

Here’s a look at a few places where our feet have taken us:

Little Tykes Go on Hikes

Locations: Phoenixville, Radnor, Upper Providence, Westtown, Springfield Mont. Co., Thornbury, Lower Merion, Lower Makefield, Media, Prospect Park, West Chester.

This program is one of our most loved. This is a hike designed for young kids, ages 3–8, and helps them connect with nature in fun, easy ways. These short hikes include trail games, safety tips, and interactive lessons about plants, bugs, and the environment.

Highlights:
Creek Walk | Upper Providence Township
Children waded through shallow streams, looked for small creatures, and learned how water systems support wildlife.

BINGO! Hike | Westtown Township Parks
With cards and stamps, kids explored the forest floor looking for natural shapes, colors, and textures.

Thanks to partnerships with groups like Radnor Township Recreation and Phoenixville Parks & Recreation, these hikes keep growing across the region.

Treats on the Trail: Ice Cream Adventures

These summer hikes let kids make their own ice cream right on the trail using hand-churns and portable stoves. They learned to measure, mix, and create a treat from scratch- right in the middle of a park.

Treasure Hunt Hikes

In these hikes, kids followed maps and riddles to find hidden items in the woods. They solved puzzles, worked in teams, and used basic navigation skills to reach the final “treasure.”

It’s one of our best ways to build confidence and curiosity at the same time.

Storybook Adventure Hikes

These hikes turn trails into storybooks. Families walk together as a guide tells a tale. Along the way, they meet characters, answer riddles, and help move the story forward. Each event is themed to match the season—like forest animals in fall or snowy quests in winter.

It’s storytelling in real time, with a little dirt under your boots.

Birding Hikes

John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge

Our birding hikes are slower and quieter. Families learn how to watch birds, recognize their calls, and use binoculars like pros. It’s a calm way to enjoy nature, perfect for kids and beginners.

We often visit places where birdwatching is at its best.

Backpacking 101 Workshop

Springfield Township Library

This hands-on class teaches the basics of backpacking. We show families how to pack gear, pitch a tent, cook a simple trail meal, and stay safe outdoors. With support from the Springfield Township Library, this program gives families a low-pressure way to try something new and exciting.

Community Events & Outreach

Springfield Township 4th of July Parade

We joined local families in the parade, waving flags and sharing trail maps and adventure kits. It was a fun way to meet our neighbors and share our passion for the outdoors.

Edgemont & Upper Providence Township Community Days

At these local festivals, we hosted booths with trail games, gear demos, and sign-up stations. These events help us reach new families and grow the Hiking Hound community.

We are always looking for ways to help orchestrate, kids, families, and adults opportunities to encourage, learn and get outdoors. Other hiking events or learning courses we offer are:

River Adventures: Day Paddling Trips, Fishing Trips, Multi-Day Trips

Outdoor Courses: Wilderness Navigation, Outdoor Knots, Practical Bushcraft, Kayaking Fundamentals, Essential Skills for River Canoeing, River Kayaking for Recreational Paddlers, Hiking with Dogs, Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness Cooking, Leave No Trace Level 1 Instructor Training, and more.

Looking Ahead

At Hiking Hound Adventures, we believe everyone learns best when they’re moving, exploring, and playing outside. That’s why we create welcoming outdoor adventures for all ages.

We continue offering seasonal hikes, new trail themes, and creative outdoor programs that make learning exciting and nature accessible. Whether rain, snow, Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter, our mission is to connect families, groups, and individuals to the outdoors.

So whether you’re new to hiking or have boots worn from many miles, we’re here to walk beside you.

See you on the trail!
