Introduction to Backpacking is a beginner-friendly course designed to give you the foundational knowledge needed to plan and complete your first overnight backpacking trip with confidence. Whether you join us virtually from home or participate in person, this interactive session delivers clear, practical guidance you can immediately apply on the trail.
Learn how to think through gear systems, select appropriate equipment, and pack your backpack for comfort and efficiency. We cover trip planning basics including choosing a destination, understanding mileage and elevation, navigating permits and regulations, and preparing for changing weather conditions. Participants will also explore food planning, water filtration versus purification, and the core principles of Leave No Trace to ensure responsible travel in the backcountry.
Throughout the session, instructors share real-world examples, practical tips, and common beginner mistakes to avoid. There is dedicated time for questions so you can leave feeling prepared and empowered rather than overwhelmed.
