Participants begin by learning the key components of a topographic map, including contour lines, scales, and symbols that reveal the shape and features of the landscape. The course then introduces compass parts and functions, how to take accurate bearings, and how to match map information with the environment around you.

After the indoor introduction, the session moves outdoors for guided field practice. You will put your new skills into action by navigating real terrain, identifying landmarks, and using both map and compass together to move with accuracy and confidence.
