Kids Fishing Adventures: Beyond the Basics
This three-part series builds on the fundamentals taught in our Introduction to Fishing program and helps young anglers become more confident, capable, and independent on the water. Participants will learn essential fishing knots, rig their own tackle, master spinning reels, and explore the exciting world of artificial lures while enjoying plenty of time with a line in the water.

Who It’s For
This series is designed for kids ages 8 to 14 who have completed Introduction to Fishing and are ready to build on their foundational skills.
Prerequisite
Introduction to Fishing: A First-Time Angling Experience for Kids
This three-part series builds on the fundamentals taught in our Introduction to Fishing program and helps young anglers become more confident, capable, and independent on the water. Participants will learn essential fishing knots, rig their own tackle, master spinning reels, and explore the exciting world of artificial lures while enjoying plenty of time with a line in the water.
What to Expect
Hands-on practice with knots, rigs, reels, and fishing techniques
Build confidence setting up and handling your own fishing gear
Learn how different equipment and techniques affect fishing success
Practice catch and release with safe handling techniques
Develop stronger casting, rigging, and presentation skills
Learn safe, respectful fishing habits and environmental awareness

Why It’s Fun
This series gives kids the chance to level up their fishing skills in a fun, hands-on environment. Each class builds independence, confidence, and real-world outdoor skills that help create a lifelong connection to fishing and the outdoors.
Part 1: Knot Tying and Rigging for Success
This hands-on class teaches kids the essential knots and rigging skills every angler needs. Participants will learn how to properly set up their own fishing gear and build confidence by tying rigs and fishing with equipment they assembled themselves.
What to Expect:
- Hands-on practice tying essential fishing knots
- Learn how to attach hooks, swivels, and sinkers
- Build and rig your own fishing setup
- Fish using a rig you created yourself
- Instructor guidance and support throughout


Part 2: Push Aside the Push Button: Spinning Reel Fundamentals
This class helps young anglers take the next step beyond push-button reels by learning how to use a spinning reel. Kids will build casting skills, improve accuracy, and gain confidence using one of the most versatile fishing setups in the sport.
What to Expect:
- Learn the differences between spincast and spinning reels
- Understand parts of a spinning reel
- Practice proper handling and bail operation
- Learn casting techniques
- Practice casting and fishing
Part 3: Beyond the Bobber: Artificial Baits and Lure Fishing
This class introduces kids to the exciting world of artificial lures. Participants will learn how different lures work, when to use them, and how fish respond to movement and presentation while practicing new fishing techniques on the water.
What to Expect:
- Explore soft plastics, inline spinners, crankbaits, and topwater lures
- Understand different lures
- Learn basic retrieval techniques presentations
- Practice fishing with artificial lures on the water
